Michael Chan - Incumbent

Michael Chan was elected to the Ontario Legislature in a February 2007 by-election. He is the Minister of Tourism and Culture and currently serves as a member of the Treasury Board/Management Board of Cabinet and the Economic, Environmental and Resources Policy Committee. Prior to politics, Michael owned an insurance brokerage in Markham. He is also an honorary president of the Toronto Chinese Senior Health and Recreation Association. Michael originally emigrated from Hong Kong almost forty years ago. He has lived in Markham since 1995 with his wife, Elaine, and their two sons.

Myles O'Brien

Elected at the nomination meeting on March 1st, Myles O’Brien grew up in Unionville. Before settling in Stouffville with his wife and two children, he moved around to many different areas. First being a musician in Vancouver and then entering the Fine Arts Program at Queen’s University. After school, Myles and his wife spent two years traveling and teaching in Mexico. He enrolled in the Environmental Studies Master’s program at York University. He now works as a program Coordinator at the Town of Richmond dealing with water issues and serves on several internal committees.

Christina Bisanz

Christina Bisanz has more than 25 years’ of leadership experience in business and not-for-profit organizations and is well known for her work in Canada’s advocacy and health care sectors. Ms. Bisanz is a board director with Community and Home Assistance to Seniors in York Region. Until recently she served as Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Long Term Care Association. She recently received a Certificate of Distinction from the Ontario Hospital Association for completing a program in good governance.  She served as Vice President, Stakeholder Relations for PharmaTrust and as executive director of the Ontario Association of Police Services.

Frank Klees - Incumbent

First elected to the Ontario Legislature in 1995 Frank Klees was re-elected in 1999, 2003 and 2007.  He currently has Critic responsibilities for Transportation and Infrastructure. He unsuccessfully stood as a candidate for the PCs in the south western Ontario riding of Essex South in 1975 and again in 1977. The Klees family emigrated to Canada from Germany when Frank was 5 years old and they settled in Leamington. Frank began his business career in financial services with the Canada Life Assurance Co. in Windsor and Toronto. He went on to establish a financial services consulting practice which included contract negotiations for professional athletes in the CFL and NFL. In 1990 Frank and two partners co-founded Municipal Gas Corporation. He served as the company's Executive Vice President until he sold his interest in 1997. Frank is married to Jaine and has two adult children, Alissa and Robert.

Kristopher Kuysten

Kristopher Kuysten is a recent Master of Economics Graduate from the University of Guelph. Kris completed his Honours bachelor of Commerce at Ryerson University in 2008 and his Masters of Arts in Economics at the University of Guelph in 2010. He has worked as an accounting assistant at TLS Fleet management Inc., an academic link for the faculty of business at Ryerson University, and he has worked as a process coordinator at CIBC World Markets. Dr. Helena Jaczek - Incumbent

Helen holds the role of The Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of the Environment. Born in England, she came to Canada at age 12, Dr. Helena Jaczek was elected as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Oak Ridges-Markham in 2007 after having run unsuccessfully in 2033.  She received an Award for Environmental Planning from the Canadian Institute of Planners. Currently, Dr. Jaczek sits on the Select Committee on Mental Health and Addictions and is also the Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on General Government. Dr. Jaczek received her medical degree and Masters of Health Science from the University of Toronto and later went on to pursue a Masters of Business Administration from York University. She practised medicine for 11 years at the Etobicoke Medical Centre and Women’s College Hospital and served as Medical Officer of Health and the Commissioner of Health Services for York Region for over 18 years.

Farid Wassef

Farid Wassef is a pharmacist and certified clinical nutritionist who practices in Stouffville, Ontario. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and also completed postgraduate studies in Pharmaceutical Care, Functional Medicine, Clinical Nutrition, Natural Medicine, and other fields in the health sciences Farid developed an office-based, fee for service, patient consultation practice in Stouffville, Ontario. He has also authored and reviewed a number of books, continuing education courses, and articles in peer-reviewed journals, public health magazines, and newspapers.

Joe Whitfeld

Joe Whitfeld is a teacher at R.H. Cornish Public School.  He is an honours graduate in both politics and history from Wilfrid Laurier University. Joe is a dedicated instructor and was nominated as Ontario’s Best New Teacher of the year in 2010-11 because of his commitment to his students.  At his school, Joe coaches several sports and also engages his students by offering a songwriting club which raises money for local charities. Because of this work Joe was also featured on Global National News’ “Everyday Heroes” series in June 2010.  Joe lives in Markham with his wife and three children.

Trifon Haitas

Trifon Haitas was born in Europe and immigrated to Canada at the age of six. He is also an honourary member of the National Ethnic Press & Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC).On the 26th of January 2007, Haitas was granted the NEPMCC medal for distinguished services.. In the 2007 Ontario Provincial Elections, Haitas ran in the Toronto riding of Don Valley East. Haitas currently lives in Oak Ridges with his wife, Mary, and their two young children.

Reza Moridi - Incumbent

Reza Moridi is the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Research and Innovation. An award-winning scientist, engineer, educator, business leader and community activist who has lived in Richmond Hill since 1991, Reza Moridi was first elected to the Ontario Legislative Assembly in 2007. Prior to his election, he was the Vice-President and Chief Scientist of the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada. He was a senior business executive in the electrical industry. Reza has also worked as a professor and administrator in academia for a number of years. Reza is a Chartered Physicist and Chartered Engineer. He is an Editor of The Radiation Safety Journal. He has authored or co-authored over 150 research papers, technical reports and documents, conference abstracts, training manuals and articles. He has made presentations at over forty scientific conferences held all over the world. Educated in the UK, Reza obtained a PhD from Brunel University. He has completed CANDU Reactor, Industrial Management and Reactor Health Physics certificate courses.

Vic Gupta

Vic Gupta is the Principal and founder of Prime Strategies Inc., a public affairs consulting firm now based in Richmond Hill. As a political volunteer, Vic has served in many capacities having successfully managed campaigns at the provincial, federal and municipal levels including roles on various leadership campaigns. He attended the University of Western Ontario and has an honours degree in Political Science.  Vic is married to Nazmin, and has two children named Amar and Ashiana.

Adam DeVita

Adam DeVita, P.Eng., has both a Bachelor’s of Applied Science (Electrical Engineering) and a Certificate in Preventive Engineering and Social Development from U of T. During his ongoing career in high technology Adam has designed electronic components and computer systems, written software to aid decision making for hospital management (accountability and financial analysis), product data collection systems, and factory automation.  He has been volunteering in Richmond Hill in many different ways for many years.  Adam has lived in Richmond Hill for 35 years, is married, and has 1 child.

Brian Chamberlain

Brian Chamberlain joined the Green Party of Ontario six years ago and has served as Financial Officer for the Richmond Hill Constituency Association. Brian’s career started as a computer systems analyst in a co-operative education program while at University of Waterloo, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree. In 2003, Brian founded his own software consulting firm and he continues to lead it today. He specializes in production systems and supply chain management, and is a trainer of Supply Chain and Information Systems at Humber and Seneca Colleges. Brian grew up in Owen Sound and its surrounding rural area. Brian’s wife Carolyn is a Professional Engineer who is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). They have lived in Richmond Hill for 21 years and have a son and two daughters.

Bernie Farber

Bernie Farber is head of the Canadian Jewish Congress and is one of Canada's leading experts on anti-Semitism, anti-racism, and minority rights. Bernie has been recognized with numerous awards for his leadership and advocacy, and has lectured worldwide. A prolific author, he contributes to national and international media. Prior to joining the Canadian Jewish Congress, Bernie was a social worker in Ottawa, specializing in child welfare and family counselling. Bernie is married with three children. He has lived in Thornhill for 23 years.

Cindy Hackelberg

Steff Duncan

Stefanie (Steff) is a student, attending Humber College before transferring to York University. She worked with the Town of Aurora as a Councillor in Training (CIT) in the summers throughout her high school years, where she worked with and assisted other Councillors in the planning of camps in Aurora.  Steff has worked with the Muskoka Wildlife Centre as a trail maintenance worker and has also volunteered at the South Lake Cancer Centre, where she helped fundraise for the centre.

Greg Sorbara - Incumbent

Second to the Premier there is probably no one more influential within the Liberal Party of Ontario then Greg Sorbara. Between 1985 and 1995, Greg served as MPP for the ridings of York North and York Centre. He was re-elected in the then newly created riding of York Centre in 1987 and 1990. Greg Sorbara was elected to the riding of Vaughan-King-Aurora in 2001 and 2003 and to the riding of Vaughan in 2007. He is Vice Chair of the 2011 Liberal Election Campaign. He is a partner of The Sorbara Group, an Ontario-based land development and property management company. Greg served as a director of the United Way of York Region for 3 years and has been a member of the Board of the York University Alumni Association. He was president of the Ontario Liberal Party from 1999 to 2004. Greg holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University’s Glendon College and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. Greg and his wife Katie have six children and ten grandchildren.

Genco is a long-time resident and community leader in Vaughan and was a long-time Liberal staffer and appointee. He ran for Liberals in the 2011 federal election against Julian Fantino. He is currently vice president of Rapid City Transportation and was the president and CEO of Parc Downsview Park Inc.  He is a husband and a father of two.

Brendan Frye

Brendan Frye studied at the University of Western Ontario, with a focus on history and media.  He commenced his career in publishing with a role in the family operated business and has worked in media and publishing for five years. He moved with the company from Stratford to Toronto in 2006 and has been producing magazines, books on poetry, art, and literature since then.

Gloria Reszler

loria Reszler is a founding member of STORM, Save the Oak Ridges Moraine Coalition. Gloria has also served as a volunteer with the Save the Rouge System and was a key player in securing provincial support for the Rouge Park and in gaining grants totaling $20 million to establish and maintain the Rouge Park.  Reszler has worked on Joyce Trimmer’s campaign to become Scarborough’s Mayor many years ago and has also worked for Greg Sorbara, Charles Beer, Christina Bisanz and most recently Richmond Hill’s MPP Reza Moridi. In addition, Gloria served for a number of years as a Sergeant with the Toronto Police Auxiliary Unit.  Gloria and her son have lived in York Region for over 30 years.

Julia Munro - Incumbent

Julia Munro was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 1995 and was re-elected in 1999, 2003 and 2007. She is currently Deputy Speaker of the Legislature and serves as PC Caucus Critic for Small Business, Consumer Services and Red Tape. Born in Hamilton, Ontario and raised in the Toronto area, she is a graduate of the University of Toronto. She taught students in the secondary school system for 28 years, first in North York and then for the York Region Board of Education. Julia Munro and her family are long-time residents of the riding of York-Simcoe. They have one adult daughter.

Megan Tay

Currently a court reporter in Toronto, Megan has been active in politics for many years.  She was the former treasurer of the University of Ottawa NDP, and is currently a member of the Toronto Young New Democrats.  She is also a familiar face on the activist scene, drawing attention to women’s rights, environmental issues, and poverty issues.  In addition to political activities, Megan is also a member of the Chartered Shorthand Reporter’s Association of Ontario, and the National Court Reporter’s Association. She has participated in adult learning and literacy programs, tutored children, and provides note taking services for the Canadian Hearing Society.

Meade Helman

Meade Helman spent 25 years as a manager and senior executive in the fast food restaurant business. He spent another 10+ years as a self employed Business Consultant and worked with engineering teams in benchmarking and cost control in the auto industry. After closing his consulting business he has been developing his artistic abilities, both painting in oil and pastel and also making unique wood objects in his Woodwright Studio.
